2 is not better than 1?

Just the other day, I remembered something that I BSed about years ago.

The scenario started with someone who had a bloody nose. Quite normal, after all, we all get a bloody nose every now and then, in one of the holes. Well within minutes, this person started having the blood come out of both nostrils at the same time. I jokingly (but in a serious tone) explained to them that they were going to die - that if one gets a bloody nose in both holes at the same time, it's deadly serious. I never thought they would believe me, but they did for a bit, and once again, I felt horrible and told them that they just might make it to see the next day.

To Riverdale and Back Again

So apparently starting next year Archie Andrews and co. are now going to be moving away from their traditional cartoony style that they've had going on for over half a century to a more modern, "realistic" comic book style. Pictures can be found here:

Am I the only one that thinks this is a terrible decision? The old style worked perfectly for the type of stories they told (I'm not ashamed to admit I used to collect tons of their comics back when I was younger, and yes, I even have some issues on my hard drive now unless you're a lawyer for the Archie Digest Library in which case I have no idea how that would even work), and the new style, well, just looks lame and awful. There's nothing distinctive about them anymore, and Betty and Veronica both look anorexic and horrid. I am just endlessly baffled as to why anyone in the company would think this was actually a good idea.

persuade away

I'm actually one of the worst BSers in the world. It's impossible for me to keep my poker face. I normally crack a smile or get completely flushed. Especially if someone questions me a second time, I usually crack!

I don't remember when it was exactly that I had convinced people of these random facts, but it was during our undergrad at Rutgers. Just to be nice, I'm not going to tell you guys who were the ones that actually believed me. It was 3 things that I got people to believe me for (well until I cracked or days had passed) - involving a butterfly, ATM, and left-handers.

Do you know the Jamaican butterfly? I convinced others that it resided in Jamaica (er duh) and that it's actually the size of a human being. Oh yes, a butterfly the size of a human! How freaky is that?!?

Since I spent so many years working in a bank, I should be very knowledgeable of it all. Somehow the subject of ATMs came up. I explained that it stood for automated teller machine. I told them that back in the day when ATMs first came out, it wasn't as high tech as now. In fact, they used to have an actual person sit in the back of the machine, who would slip the bills out to you. There was some doubt, especially around the fact that the machine seemed too tiny to host a person inside. That wasn't a problem since the other end of an ATM is sometimes in the vault. That way, the person wasn't really sitting inside the machine that you saw, they were just behind it.

I must say the best fabrication was when I pulled out my psychology facts and experiment results! I had a lot of people convinced for a long time about an interesting study about left-handers. I explained that recent studies had found that left-handers engage in self-loving more than right-handers. I can't remember what backings I used, but they were good ones. After a few days, I felt bad so I told them that I made the whole thing up.

Just how cold IS the South Pole, anyway?

I had a rather eye opening experience at work earlier this week. During lunch Monday night, I randomly decided to try to convince my co-worker Joyce that it was actually really hot at the South Pole, because (obviously) the planet just gets hotter and hotter the farther south you go. Everyone else chimed in on my side when she tried to argue with me, in what I had assumed at the time was just them going along with the joke, only to later have Paul come up to me later that night and tell me another of our co-workers had said it was actually the opposite, which I of course quickly sneered at and started mocking our stupid joke-ruining co-worker for being dumb. I went home feeling rather proud of myself for having managed to fool not one but two co-workers about something that, quite frankly, they should have known since before elementary school. Of course, that wasn't the end of it, as tonight I was confronted by yet another co-worker who had been joining in with me at the lunch table, Damien, who said he had seen a map at school this past morning and the South Pole was actually freezing cold, not hot. Apparently I have really impressive oratory skills that I just hadn't discovered up to now, for I have now learned that I can convince my really really stupid co-workers about anything.

Just to get a group project out of this, what really absurd things have the rest of you managed to convince other people of? If you can't think of anything of real quality, I may assign dumb things for you all to fool people with, to help further our proud nation's spiral into idiocy. It shall be wonderful.

mr. roboto

How cute is this robot? I just want to squish its cheeks! This robot is supposed to help with human care, probably more along the elderly. It's equipped with tactile sensors so it can measure the force of contact, that way it doesn't crush anyone. As you can all see the squishiness factor, so it's human friendly. As well, it has human like ears so it can locate things. I'm sure none of you need this option but it can detect several smells (such as urine)! Could you imagine these in the assisted living centers or even one with the grandparents? Honestly, compared to what the robots in I, Robot looked like, I would much prefer this one!
